Wizards House final Watercolour

As a final look at the Wizards house, I wanted to create a large watercolour image, highlighting its colours and surroundings. The initial sketch can be seen below.

I decided to use a gloomy blue colouring in the image, to highlight the lanterns as well as give a spooky, ominous feel to the painting. This is the scene where Ivy first discovers the house.

Beyond the Kingdom designs.

I put together two rough sketches of the world beyond the Kingdom, one where most of the wastelands can be seen, and the other of the woods.

These then turned into watercolour images, and I used pen to highlight characters in the scenes.

Kingdom/Castle Designs

This was my first initial idea for the kingdom, a hill with a beautiful castle on top surrounded by a village. From this watercolour I went on to make a large watercolour, seen below.

I decided from this, that I didn't want the Kingdom to look this beautiful and full of life. I wanted it with less colour, and the castle much more stylised to fit the look of the village. I threw a sketch together (See below) which I was really happy with, and the design process went from there.

I began designing the castle more in depth, (below right) and then put together a rough sketch for a large watercolour. (below left)

This is my final design for the kingdom, in a large watercolour image. There is not much life here, with dead plants and mud throughout. Behind the castle is the chasm in the ground preventing the darkness from entering the Kingdom.

Roscoe and Conrad Final Design Watercolours

I decided to change the final design for Roscoe slightly, to distinguish him from other Elk. He has his own unique tack with an 'R' engraved in his martingale. He also has a broken antler from a past battle. His markings are also unique to him, with two front socks and a mark on his head.

This is another watercolour of Conrad, showing his colouring and personality.

Generic Character Designs

These are some designs for Villagers and Soldiers found in the Kingdom.

Royal Family Development

After completing Ivys design, I began planning the looks of her mother and father.  Below are developmental sketches of the King and Queen.

Wizards House Development & Final Designs

This was my first design sheet for ideas for the Wizards house. I chose one, second row from the bottom on the right, to begin experimenting with.

This experimentation led to this design of the house being created. As Liam is making it in 3D I couldn't create something too outrageous, but this was a good mix of unusual and realistic.

I then had to create a floor plan of the house, so Liam could decide which rooms to model.

When texturing began, I played around with different colours, in the end choosing this combination.

This is a small rough sketch of the main room, which Liam will be modeling.

This is a neater version of the interior of the room.

An Asset list, containing all items found in the main room.

Old Wizard (Zakur) Progress and Final Design

The Old Wizard was a strange character to design. I always had an image in my head of how I wanted him to look, see below.

Zakur Character Bio
Age: 57
Gender: Male
Height: 6ft 6
Zakur is a strange man. After the wizards became vital to the kingdoms survival, Zakur went into hiding, shutting himself up in his house, and keeping his magic side hidden from the world. Having a somewhat crazy personality, Zakur dresses smartly in worn, old clothes, and regularly practises card tricks. Although odd, Zakur is kind hearted and takes Ivy into his home and teaches her magic to survive.
Zakur - 'Crazy' and 'Insane'.

Below is the final design for Zakur, in his smart outfit.

Below is a large watercolour showing his choice of unusual colours in his clothes.

Character Sheet
This is the first character sheet completed for Zakur.

Mount & Roscoe Final Designs

Roscoe Character Bio
Age: 11
Gender: Male
Height: 6ft 3 or 19hh
Roscoe is a large and strong Elk, being bred especially for the King and raised by him. He has a playful personality, and loves Ivy playing with him in the Stables. Although he is large, he is very agile and has regularly travelled miles across the land with the King. Roscoe is very protective over Ivy and extremely loyal, but can also be rather stubborn.
Roscoe - The name Roscoe means 'from the Deer Forest'.

Below is the design for Roscoe, without Tack.

This is a watercolour of Roscoe, displaying his colouring.

Below is an example of tack used by the poor, plain brown and worn.

Below is the Royal tack used on Guard mounts and Royal mounts.

Character Sheet

Mount (Roscoe) Development

The Elk is a mount used throughout the Kingdom, either being ridden or used in carts. It sports unusually large antlers, and unique colourings, and has thin, deer like legs. I will be designing generic Elk, ridden by guards, royals and the poor, as well as the kings Elk, Roscoe, Whom Ivy adores.

Spirit Guardian (Conrad) Final Designs

Conrad Character Bio
Age: Unknown
Height: 1ft 9
Gender: Unknown
Created from an old toy of Ivy's, Conrad is a happy fox with bundles of energy. With his own unique magic of being able to transform and manipulate objects and people, Conrad accompanies Ivy on her journey. Protective and Loyal, Conrad can be summoned by Ivy at any time to aid her.
Conrad - 'Honest Advisor', 'Brave, and 'Wise'.

This is the final design for Conrad, with the collar. His colouring is unique to him, created from the patches on the toy.

Below is the colouring for Conrad, a beige/cream colouring with grey patches.

This is Conrad with the collar, bearing the kings seal and a C for Conrad, the name of the Kings old dog.
