I decided that I would like another show reel which shows work other than Ivy. Therefore, I pooled all of my other work from the course and from general work, and put together a short show reel showing my other talents and art. The finished show reel can be viewed below, along with some stills.

My own printed book!
For my exhibition, I wanted to have my book displayed as a physical copy. This copy of my book would also be a great asset to have when applying for jobs, as an amazing addition to my portfolio. After struggling to find somewhere where they could print my book the way I wanted, I eventually turned to Vista print once more, where I used their photo book option to create my concept art book. The finished piece will have a hard cover, and be just as I designed it.

Project Evaluation
For our final project,
BA8, I worked together with Liam Gallagher-Vaes to develop the story
of 'Ivy'. As a production team, I was in the role of concept artist,
piecing together the characters and environments. Throughout the
project, my idea for my final outcome changed dramatically. I began
by aiming to have a portfolio of concepts, ideally 10 or more images,
as well as a 30 page A5 Manga book. This was the main body of work,
alongside my project showreel, my reflective journal and evaluation.
The project began very well, and I had secured a vast amount of
development work that went into creating the characters. I immensely
enjoyed developing the characters designs and seeing their
personality and character emerge. My art style developed through the
design process, beginning with a very Japanese manga style,
developing into something much more Americanized and influenced
strongly by Disney. However, I always kept my own unique style to my
work, always wanting to be original in my art. As my concepts began
building up to an immense load, I began to rethink my idea. I had put
so much work into creating an extremely large body of work, it would
be a shame that only some of it would be seen and submitted. I began
to put together a couple of pages of my Manga, and found that
alongside all of my concepts, I wasn't happy with how it was turning
out, so I decided to make a large concept art book instead,
displaying all of my hard work that went into the development of this
world and its characters. My aim was 100 pages, and I began the
design process and found it fell into place extremely well. 110 pages
later and the book was complete, and I am thrilled with the final
product. I also put a lot of effort into creating an interactive pdf
file, so that viewers can turn the pages just like a real book. My
concept art book will also be printed physically, as it will be an
excellent addition to my portfolio. I also used the pages of my book
to create my showreel, which I am also incredibly proud of. The use
of effects and music fit the theme of the story and art, and I am
proud to feature this on my website. Throughout this final project, I
feel I have really developed myself as a professional artist, with a
strong art and design website under my belt, and a large portfolio I
can be proud of. I feel my website really shows the person and artist
I am, and I hope this serves me well in the future. I am extremely
glad I changed my idea, as this has given me vital experience in the
field of design, having to intricately design each page of my book. I
feel I have excelled myself in this project, and I will continue to
draw the characters and the world of Ivy, as I have immensely enjoyed
the process of creating them.

Finished website design
Now that my Show reel is complete, I wanted to put this on the first page of my website, as the first thing viewers will see when they visit my site. I feel this gives a striking impact on the page, and will hopefully entice people to look at my other work. Below is the final layout for my art portfolio website. I am really happy with it as it conveys the type of work I create, bright, colourful and unique.
Interactive Book, with page curl
As a side project, I really wanted to look into making my book interactive with the viewer being able to drag the pages over just like a book. I wasn't expecting to get this done for submission, but after some tutorials and help from friends, I managed to get it the way I wanted.
I started off by creating a new InDesign document. I had the format of the pages A4 Landscape to fit my already made pages. I then my my page images into the document. I first of all had a script enabled which allowed me to import it as a pdf, however I lost a lot of quality this way, so went on to putting the images in separately.
After it was all ready to go, I exported the file as a .SWF file, which enabled me to have a page curl animation on the document. This opened as an HTML, with my book animated and able to be interacted with. This however wasn't what I needed, as I needed it as a .PDF file.
Therefore, after this, I opened a new document in InDesign and opened a blank 2 page spread. Here, I placed my saved .SWF file into the document. After clicking Media at the side and adjusting the settings, I was able to export as an Interactive PDF, enabling the viewer to turn the pages of my PDF file just as they would a book. This is what I will be finally submitting.

Word Statement
My
name is Sophie Woollard and I am a 2D Artist and Designer. I
love the way art can create new worlds, new ideas and create an image
which inspires and captures people. Through
this course I have developed both my traditional and digital art
skills, as well as learning to work in a professional creative team.
For my final project I had the opportunity to go back to my
traditional roots, creating masses of drawings and watercolour
paintings. The experience of creating my own concept art book has
also given me the knowledge of design and composition in books.

Show Reel development
After finishing my book, I started work on my show reel, I decided to use Premiere Pro to create my show reel as I am very familiar with the software, and I feel you can get a really professional final outcome using it. Below you can see how I pieced together my video. I have got all my image clips on one track, with text and effects above it on their own tracks.
I wanted to make my video unique and striking, so I found some free video effects that would make it much more professional. The top two images show the film burn effect I used for some transitions, and the bottom image shows a sparkle type effect which I used across the whole video on half opacity. This gives it a very magical feel.
After putting all of my clips together on my tracks and sorting out the music and effects, I rendered it out into a .mov file on the maximum render settings. The finished show reel can be seen below, along with stills.
